What's defense skill?

What is Defense Skill?
Defense is a skill you have that helps you avoid damage from your opponents.
The official definition from Blizzard is:

code:
-Increases the chance to dodge, parry, and block.
-Decreases the chance of being affected by a critical hit.
-Decreases the chance of being affected by a crushing blow.

In practice, we can see by equipping an item with +defense that one point of defense skill increases your chance to dodge by 0.04%, chance to block by 0.04%, and chance to parry by 0.04%. It has been stated by Blizzard that a point of defense reduces your chance to be critically hit by 0.04% - though your chance to be critically hit is relative to your opponent's weapon skill (and any +crit items they are wearing, of course). It's been tested to determine that a point of defense increases your chance to be missed by 0.04%. Note that if you are higher or lower level than what you are fighting, the difference counts, too. A level 80 (400 defense) against level 70 (350 weapon skill) gains the benefit of the extra 50 defense versus that opponent automatically (+2% miss, dodge, parry, block; -2% chance to take a crit).

In various places, I'll use a term called level maximum defense. This is simply your maximum defense skill for your level, or (5 x level) - 350 at level 70, 400 at level 80, etc.

One primary benefit to defense skill is the reduction in critical hits. You can't dodge or parry every attack, but you can make it so you take no critical hits in combat. Minimise the number of critical hits and crushing blows you take, and you help your healers keep you alive with much more ease. The other benefit to defense is its increase to your avoidance skills (chance to be missed, chance to dodge, chance to parry), and its increase to your chance to block. Block is not avoidance; it is a mitigation

Crushing Blows
Not much of a concern in Wrath of the Lich King, except maybe for tanks who are still levelling up. Read here: Crushing Blows.

Critical hits
Critical hits from mobs hit you for 200% of the mob's normal damage. For PvE creatures, only white damage attacks (regular autoattacks) can be critical hits - spells and special abilities such as mortal strike cannot crit you. Player spells and specials can crit in PVP, of course. So far as we know, observed, and analysed, creatures get (5 x level) weapon skill for attacking. We also know that if you have defense equal to your opponent's weapon skill, then your opponent has a basic 5% chance to critically hit you. So, for a level 80 player with 400 defense against a level 80 mob (5 x level = 400 weapon skill), the mob has a 5% chance to critically hit the player. This is, of course, subject to exception for critical hit enhanced monsters, or monsters that debuff your defense. We will for now work on the assumption that level 80 creatures only have 400 weapon skill, level 81 have 405, and so on, but there are some exceptions. This matches observed behaviour to date.

Looking at this table, we can see that with 525 defense against a level 80 opponent that has 400 weapon skill, you should reduce the chance that you'll take a critical hit from them to zero. Similarly, you should reduce the critical hit chance to zero against level 81 opponents at 530 defense, 82 at 535, and 83 at 540. We call this level of defense the critical minimum.

In the above paragraph, we say "should" to all of this. Of course, we always have the reports of some mob that lands a critical hit on a tank that is well past the critical minimum for the mob that was attacking. We can look at the Malicious Instructor in Shadow Labyrinth in Outlands that was known to land crits on level 70 tanks with 525 and higher defense skill. It's notable that all of these mobs that manage to crit people that are at or past the critical minimum are rogue types. From this we infer that at least some rogue type mobs have an increased chance to critically hit. That doesn't answer the question as to why crits are landing on tanks with extremely high defense scores. We find a probable answer in this quote from Kalgan speaking specifically to critical hit reduction from defense:

Source: Kalgan

At 490 defense, the math caps out. Defense won't mitigate beyond that.

(Note that the quote comes from the Burning Crusade era, where the maximum was level 70 and so the critical minimum for level 73 mobs was 490). Based on this, it's quite possible that the critical hit reduction mechanic bottoms out at 5.6%, and so a mob with more than 5.6% chance to critically hit will have a chance to critically hit any tank, regardless of defense skill. The chance would be small (chance to crit - 5.6%), but not zero. We don't know that for sure, though. Since we do occasionally see mobs landing critical hits on tanks with extremely high defense, there's a good probability that is the reason, however.

Diminishing Returns
Defense increases your chance to be missed by an attacker, dodge attacks, parry attacks, and block attacks. Of these defenses, three of them (miss, dodge, and parry) are subject to diminishing returns. That is, every point of defense you add gives you slightly less chance to miss, dodge, and parry than the previous point of defense gave you. Diminishing returns on avoidance is discussed in depth here: Diminishing Returns - Avoidance.

Defense Rating and Defense Skill
One thing to not mix up is defense rating and defense skill - they are related, but different. When you look at an item, it will say "increases defense rating by X". The amount of defense skill you get from an amount of defense rating changes with your level. If you're level 80, you get X/4.92 defense skill for that (e.g. 24 defense rating => 4.88 defense skill). Items list how much rating the item gives. Your skills page and character panel show how much defense skill you have.

How much defense do I need, then?
540 if you are raiding. There's no reason why you would not be uncrittable as a raid tank, ever. Beyond that, it's probably a good idea to be uncrittable for against what you're tanking to be nice to your healer, but it probably won't be a huge problem unless you really undergear the content.

Once in a Blue Moon
I almost left this out of this iteration of the guide. It's still debated in some quarters, though, so I'll keep it around for now. As noted above, certain mobs land ctitical hits on tanks that are beyond the critical minimum for the mob's level. This has led to a belief for some that there's always a chance of a critical hit landing "once in a blue moon", regardless of how much defense you have. People will quote numbers like 0.01% or 0.000001%.
  • - If the chance were 0.01%, or even 0.001%, we'd see a lot more reports of critical hits on tanks across all servers, given the size of the playerbase
  • - A lot more players would be reporting being one-shot by raid bosses
  • - Reports of mobs landing critical hits on tanks beyond critical minimum always are the same ones, and they always seem to be the same type (dual wielding, rogue-type) of mob
There's always been debate between the higher crit chance and once in a blue moon sides, and probably always will be to some extent. Given the number of mobs that never land critical hits on tanks compared to the ones that do, I am firmly in the higher critical hit chance camp. Of course, you can argue that higher crit chance and once in a blue moon are basically the same, since the chance to crit remaining would be the mob's chance to crit less 5.6% (as above). That'd be true to an extent, but we're still left with the select number of mobs that land critical hits on tanks past the critical minimum. What you believe is up to you.

Other ways to get critically hit
No matter which theory on crits vs. defense you believe, the crit you just took may not be related to that at all.

You sat down. Probably the leading cause. You miskeyed, sat down, and took a crit. Best part, the exchange happened in under a second, so your computer didn't even have time to render the sit animation, in all likelihood. Oops. Unbind sit from a hotkey, or at the very least, bind it to something inconvenient to hit.

Mind control. Feral Druid. Leader of the Pack. Mind Control. Boom.

Some debuff. Twin Emperors in AQ40 were the first place we saw this. Debuff the tank's defense by 100, and the crits begin. It's happened before, it'll happen again.

Defense skill and PvP
Some people say that defense works differently in PvP than it does from PvE, and some say it doesn't. Since it's been stated by Blizzard that it works the same in both, I'll go with that I think. The problem is that since players can and do collect gear to increase their critical hit chance, chance to hit, weapon skill and so on, that you just need that much more defense to counter their critical hit chance. The question becomes, how much do you need, and is it worth it to get there?

Let's start with what we know:

Code:
1 defense = -0.04% chance to critical hit (verified by Blizzard)

From that we can see that 25 defense counters 1% chance to critical hit. With that in mind, the amount of defense you need from gear to counter another player's chance to critical hit would be simply:

Code:
def = 25 x ChanceToCrit

Where ChanceToCrit is the player's listed chance to critical hit. So, at level 80, facing an opponent with a 25% chance to crit, you would need 625 defense skill (3075 defense rating!) from gear to counter their chance to critical hit. Keep in mind that, if you are level 78 fighting level 80, you need two more levels worth of defense, or 10 skill (50 rating), to make up for the level difference. Or, if you are level 80 fighting level 78, your chance to critically hit is actually 10 x 0.04 = 0.4% higher than your listed chance to critically hit. It's pretty unlikely that you'll get enough defense to mitigate critical hits from other players. On the other hand, all your defense will reduce the chance that they will critically hit you, of course! Point for point, resilience is better than defense for reducing critical hit chance, which is why you find it on all the PVP-oriented gear.

First thing I got from Uncle Andy was the link. So I turned on my computer (took forever to cold boot), after all these and that bootup script crap, and another 15minutes of waiting for my account to get unlocked (this issue never get resolved by the useless IT department). After a looooong struggle of waiting, I finally can opened up the link but the damn disc already sold out.

That's quick. Geez, people really have nothing to do at work.

Dreaming of Japan trip

Had this weird dream last night...
Right now is November. Cool and sunny weather. Then suddnely I find a ticket to japan I bought back in July, and the flight is just a few hours away. and I haven't packed anything. Oh crap, I pulled the small lugguage out, exactly know I don't want the big one from ski trip, so I can get on and off asap. Remember Manbro keeps saying want to get out of airport at 8pm asap when we get off the plane on the way back.
So why I am going with Manbro to Japan? How do I remember all these details (date and time specific)?
And how come I am not packing my laptop? How to survive without WoW?

Lake Tahoe Day 1 - Noob going Snowboard

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

Weather: Sunny, low 30s, hi 50s

Woke up around 7:30 and waited for my turn to get change. That rollaway bed was shxtty soft. Didn't have a good sleep all night long after arriving after midnight(sorry guy and gals for keeping you all up so late).

We walked up to the shop at the bottom of the resort -- Ski Heavenly. Beginning class + equip ($40) + lift ticket ($59) for $130. Not too bad, actually $30 cheaper than they post it online. So snowboard lesson = 130 - 40 - 59 = $31, not bad at all.

After getting my snowboard and boots (hard to walk on with the boots, the guy tied them too tight), and my class won't start until 10:45, and we got everything done by 10. We decided to took the cable car up to the mountain. WoW, nice view baby. It's quite a ride to get to the lift up on the mountain, I say about 10 minutes ride. Along the ride, I didn't see much snow. Where are the snow???

After we got off the cable car and walked on the snow, I realized I lost my left hand glove. Oh well, forget it, I don't need no gloves. As soon as we off to the stairs,a professional photographers walked up to us offering to take a few pictures for us. SCAM!!! LOL. After taking a few man pile pictures, I had to ride back down to meet with the class. 2 instructors and 12 noobs. Guess the class size was not that big, good deal again, imo.

Man, I should've stayed up on the mountain, now we all riding back up to the same place. I chose to follow the female professor, I think she's cooler than Cody. Her name is Jasmine. Ty would be excited... hahaha(his wife's name is Jamin).

First thing we learned was to tie our front foot to the board. Damn it's hard. There's 2 notch to tie, and somehow I messed up, trying to tie the front notch with the back strip, I kept trying and it didn't fxxking work.... then Jasmine came over and did it for me. Ouch, epic fail!!!! Fail index = 0. Where is my fail-o-meter??

As a noob and slow learner, I found out it's hard to do all the left turn, right turn, After 30min or so of struggles and learning, we took the magic carpet to the top of a beginner "SLOPE". First try: fell 3 times from the top to the bottom, I say about 20 - 30 yards... ouch... and without the gloves it hurt to fall on your hands as you sliding around trying to slow yourself down. Jasmine saw me without any gloves, so she loaned me her gloves with holes, well, at least better than nothing.

As days went on... everytime I went from top to bottom, I fell at least once, still don't get it on how to slow down... sigh... at least the snow was soft so I can fall on it without hurting my rear. Good times good times.... Jasmine said I would be good at right turning.. I think she's lying to me... lol.

BTW, did I mention it's getting hotter and hotter when you snowboard? I ended up only wear a shirt and the jacket, took the thermal off. Even then, I can't zip up my jacket, it's just too damn hot. I was sweating and sweating.

Somehow my friend wanted to record a video clip for me to slide down (with falling), now everyone can see how noob jon failed and fell.... good stuff.

Personally, I think we should just let them declare bankrupcty. They have been failing for years. We should give the CEOs penalty for failing to lead the company. Look at them flying in pirate jets to Washington and asked government for billions. If I were the one deciding to lean them a helping hand, I definitely say no. It's like you come to my house riding in a ferrai and ask to borrow money so you can go party. NO WAY!!! Fire all these shameless CEOs and let the government take over. Soon we will see more and more nationalize business.

How many companies can the US government bailout because of their failures? We need some sort of regulation to stop all these nonsense loaning. It's totally bad business practice. How can you give out loan to people and don't check on their background?

Series 2: Hotel Bargain

Next thing is where to sleep. Even I am poor, I don't want to sleep under the bridge in such a cold weather. I suggested Montbleu(CASINO ding ding ding) to them after I saw a post on fatwallet, but the rich manager said it's too far to the ski resort so we rejected the idea.
So after a day long of research, rich manager came down with 5 choices for us to pick. I ranked them in bed avaliability down to comfort and last is price.
Rich manager surprised I ranked the cheapest place last. So I had to justisfied my ranking. I claimed if we living that far from the resort, I would rather live in Montblu which is just next to the cheapest hotel (which is their sister hotel).

So the executives went to check out the casino website and found the price is really attractive. After the executives reviewed the business requirements, they decided it's the place to book.

So it all came out to be around $96/per night to book through the hotel website, which is at least 30 bucks cheaper than the other 5 hotels the rich manager suggested.

But wait, one of the executives asked me for the final time if we should hit the GO button. I thought it's already a good deal, but since the people above me want me to do one last research, I went ahead and did a search on google.

First I found a better deal from some website which has it for ~$85 a night. People are all excited. Then I found a even better deal on cheaptickets.com which offer 30% off for booking 4+ night.

With such a huge difference, we didn't hesitate to booked our hotel at 60ish a night. (REMEMBER the AA price gouge????)

Series 1: Flight ticket Bargain(SCAM)

After a long struggle to find the right price on the flight ticket, we finally decided to fly out on the 28th.
I spent the whole afternoon on Tuesday looking for the best deal, finally I decided to book my ticket through Orbiz @ $233. After I put all my info (including credit card) and click the submit button, they rejected my order saying the package is not avaliable at this time.

I was like WTF? Then I tried it again, FAIL again. So I asked my friend who booked the tickets thru AA 2 minutes earlier than me.

So I went ahead to AA website and search for the tickets. Man, the price jumped to $244 from Hou to Reno (it was $96 for that flight). I sweared it's the same flight I've been looking at for 4 hours while waiting for all the people to confirm the date and time.

GOod times good times. I can't believe I am the victim of this stupid scam. Fear of more price gouging from AA, I went ahead and booked another flight with the same price. so instead of leaving houston in the morning, I will be taking the 5:35pm flight. I will be missing the whole day action. I guess more WoW for me.

WoW was down, Free Season 2 loot

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

WoW was down most of the night last night. From the blue post the mail system was screwed up and all the mails in the mailbox have been disappeared. After hours of hours waiting, I ended up playing Ninja Gainden II on my Xbox360 for quite a bit. Man, that game is freaking hard.

Anyway, I went back to my computer around 11:15pm and Ty has already logged on playing. (I think Ty is more addicted than I do. :P ) When I was about to head out questing, shxtty Scribble msg me saying that there's some Season 2 pvp gear free to pickup on Dark Iron. I quickly switched there and went to Champion's Hall. Man, that place was packed. I couldn't even target the NPC that selling the gear. After a long struggle, I gave up and log back on Spirestone and checked on if there's free loot for my toons there also. Wow... my lvl 60 warlock could picked up the whole Season 2 pvp set. That's the whole night I've been spending, log on different toons to get the "free" gear. Ty even made a new hunter to get the free axe.

I can tell you Dark Iron has too many shxtty alliance. They jumped around on the NPC, casting AOE spells, dancing, summoning their stupid pet, anyway you can think of so other people can't get their loot. Why all these !$@#$@$$% idiots?? That's why alliance suck in pvp, they don't corporate. They don't listen, they only worry about their own benefits. SOB....

After a few hours of trying and running around, I finally got both my warlock and priest full Season 2 pvp gear, shammy picked up the helmet, and hunter got the offhand axe. Woot!!

I am pretty sure Blizzard would take care of their mistakes and took the gears away from us. But hey, it's worth a try, isn't it?

End of Raid for VOID (OSRT)

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

Everything comes to the end. Tonight will be our final raid day for Burning Crusade before WOLK coming out. It's been a long and enjoyful 10 months of raid. We have progressed from 10 man Karazhan run to a 25 man raid in Tempest Keep and SSC.

Along this 10 months, people come and go. Some retired from raiding, some move on to enjoy their life with the family, and some get recruited to a more serious raid team.

Mount Hyjal is nothing hard except the last boss. We struggled our way with Archie in MH and Bloodboil in Black Temple. At times I thought we were not going to see all the Tier 6 contents as frustration and growing pain caught up with some of us. At certain nights people just not showing up for raid as they know learning boss fight is not something fun to enjoy. We have to call the raid and the people show up would do something on the side like ZA or random heroic instances.

Then patch 3.0 released. Blizzard nerf the shxt out of raid content and raiding becomes fun and enjoyable again. Although most of the fights are still more about execution then dps race, we managed to finish all the T6 content and it's all under our belt now. At the end, we killed Illidian and Archie. We are certainly feel good about ourselves.

What to do next?? Wait of WOLK expansion to come out and leveling my toons. Hopefully Akumanozeto can keep up with me. His wife has all the power.... I feel for you, Akumanozeto!!!

Dairy Queen fail

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy /

Normally I won't complain about the food even it's not tasting that good. Unfortunately Dairy Queen failed so bad I had to vent it out.

After I filled up my tank ($2.43 per gallon for 93 Octane woot!!!) and pumped up my flat tires (all 4 are below recommend air pressure), I went to Dairy Queen just next to the Chevron gas station on Memorial and HWY 6 to get some quick lunch. I got back to my office and torn up the paper bag. The first thing I always ate would be the fries. Hmm, did't taste good. It tasted like the fries are refried or something. Big fail. Since I was so hungry I just had to finish all the fries even they tasted aweful. Then I took a bite on the grilled chicken sandwich. The grilled chicken didn't taste like it was grilled, it more like it was microwaved. Did they use microwave oven and think it would taste like it was cooked from a real oven? Shxtty, I would never go back to that dairy queen again. I looked at my recipt and my order was #42. No wonder they don't have much business. (it was almost 1pm when I got out from the drive thru). BTW, the coke has like half cup of ice, fxxk, big rip off!!!

Another shxtty nHibernate error

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

Last Tuesday, one of the Facilities.Net lady email me saying the application is not working. I looked at it and test it out without any problems. So I thought it's just a glitch and put it aside as I was crazy busy last week.

Then on Friday, the same lady emailed me again complaining the app still gave her the famous yellow screen asp.net error. I was not at office that day (it's my Friday off). So I just told her I would get back to her on Monday.

Fun begins. When I first stepped in the office, one of the web services I wrote last week broke the new hire InfoPath form. So I fixed it all morning and then the lady reminded me to fix her problem.

I fixed the web service shxt then loaded up the Facilities.Net and tried to figure out what's wrong with it. Boy oh boy... I just had no clue what went wrong. I even went to her office to try it out myself.

After talking to my supervisor, who actually wrote the app, he looked into the database and the error msg. Then suddenly he clicked and figured out where the problem could be and told me to look into it. Good times. So I digged through the database and found that there's ONE fxxking record in the Building table didn't have a Floor assigned to it.

In a normal asp.net application, it wouldn't matter much. But in nHibernate, this is one big fxxking problem. Shxt are loaded in cache. If 1 thing went wrong, the whole application blow up. So I inserted a Floor manually and everything went back to normal. Good times, good times.

nHibernate = POS, strongly not recommended, especially in web application, which supposed to be stateless.

Illidan down!!

Even Blizzard nerf the raid dungeon big time, Illidari Council and Illidan is still more excution fights than dps race. But the dps buff certainly help us to finish these 2 boss fights. We only have Archie to kill to complete our Tier 6 content.

Oh god!! Thx to rich guy Dave to find this for me. Thx shxtty guy.

Problem
description: Request for the permission of type
'Microsoft.SharePoint.Security.SharePointPermission,
Microsoft.SharePoint.Security, Version=1
After installing a new SharePoint
Web Part, it is not working and you get an error like Request for the permission
of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.Security.SharePointPermission,
Microsoft.SharePoint.Security, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' failed.
Solution: Change the trust level for
your SharePoint Web Part
This means the trust level of your newly installed
SharePoint Web Part is not set correctly. To fix this, follow these
steps:
Start the Visual Studio Command Prompt (in the program group Visual
Studio Tools).
Go to the directory where the dll is installed (typically
c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\bin).
Run the command gacutil
/i newwebpartdll.dll.
Run iisreset.
Your newly installed SharePoint Web
Part will be added to the global assembly cache (GAC) and everything should work
fine now.

Texans = gave up 21 points in 2min10sec

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy /

Texans are awesome. Watching most of the game in the downstairs living room while checking other NFL scores, doing my laundry, and baking the frozen pizza. They came back from a 10 point deficit to a 27-10 lead. At that point everyone would thought Texans had the win in the bank. So I went upstairs to watch the rest of the game and turned my computer on. OMG first the Colts scored a TD in a 4th and 7 situtation. Then our crazy backup QB Rosenfiels went nose dive and got the football knocked out in the midair. Colts picked up the fumble and went for a defensive TD. Great. All of a sudden the 17pt lead went down to 3 point lead.

OK, take care of the ball guys!! NO. Once again Rosenfiels got the ball stripped out of his hands. Good stuffs. The Colts socred another TD. With 2 minutes left to play, Mr. Turnover threw an interception and that's the game.

Oh god, Texans played so good for 3 1/2 quarters and couldn't close out the game. It sounded like the Rockets always given up the 4th quarter lead.......

Stock sinking

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

I bought BAC on 9/25/08 @ $28.04, it went down to 27.xx at one point but I could never catch the low. Then the following Monday (9/29/2008) Dow Jones went to 700+ points b/c the House didn't pass the $700 billion plan. I was keeping my finger crossed when BAC went down to $30 and Manbro bought some on that Monday, thanks for sinking the ship.

On Wednesday I talked to Manbro again and he said he would just waited till the government pass the new $700 billion rescue plan before selling the stock. I didn't agree with him so I sent in my stop market order at $38.22. Shortly after I put in my order, internet went out at work so I had no idea if my order went through or not.

Good that my order went through. On Thursday the stock market went down again. So I am a happy camper to make a little money. In fact, don’t buy anything Manbro is buying. :P He sank my BAC ship… luckily I got out before the ship got sunk below the water.

Friday the market went up in the morning as everyone waiting for the new plan announcement. Right at the point when the government announced the new rescue plan, the market went down right away. As of today, the Dow downed for 400+ point and it's below 10,000 for the first time since 2004.

At this point, you can:
1. Take the loss and hold on to your money
2. Take a wait and see approach

I am just going to hold on to my stocks. I don't recommend to buy any "good deal" at this point. Just my 2cents. If you really want to buy some cheap stuffs, I probably will look into energy/oil and gold stocks. People still need to drive their car to work and they can't really cut the energy they consume. Don't come get me if I am wrong!!

p.s. BAC = Bank of America

Kolache Day

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy /

Group meeting at work yesterday. Boss bought a few box of kolache from Kolache Factory. Then a client bought some kolache from Shipley Donuts. After eating kolache all day, from breakfast to dinner, about 8 kolaches for the day, I come up with the following kolache test:

Comparison:

  • Shipley Donuts: Their kolache is like regular sasuage wrap in regular hot dog bun with chesse, sasuage fell out (not completely wrapped inside the bun), taste like dry hot dog with no ketchup. Sasuage too dry.
  • Kolache Factory: jalapeno ones are good. Regular one is just kick ass.

Conclusion: Get kolaches from THE factory, not from someone that only knows how to make donuts

2nd day back to work from Ike. No such mood to work on anything, or has anything to work on at all.

Recap:
Saturday (9/13/2008): Ike made the landing.... and rain and wind hit my window (I slept right next to it) like millions of needles hitting it nonstop... didn't sleep well, and it was crazy hot, and I spent much of the day sleeping anyway.

Sunday: as hot as Saturday, it's like 80s or 90s? without any wind, lucky my friend has power and I went there to recharge my phone batteries and play some long missing wow. 2 days without internet/wow is like living in hell....

1. Home still without power. It's been 7 days and counting. Report said it would be back by next Monday, that would be 9 days without power. WTF. It's 9 times worse than what I expected

2. Million Thanks to Mandy to let the evacuees to stay for a few days. Good food and good TV to watch, good time to hang out with u all, although sleeping on the floor was kind of rough :P

3. WoW still go on... except no raiding. Leveling with Ty has been fun.

New Braunfels tubing

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy /

Water is damn cold!!! That's the first thing I would tell you. and it's hard to get on your tube. I just jumped high and landed into my tube. The whole tubing thing starts off pretty slow, took us quite a few minutes to float away from the starting area.

I found out it's not the safest thing to do if you don't know how to swim. I felt off my tube twice. First time I tried to just sat into my tube but the water just pushed me away from the tube. I fell into the water again... mother fxxxxx. I had to JUMP into it.

As we went for the 2nd run, we tied every tubes together with some stronger strings. It didnt't work too well as the rock still cut the string and we got seperated into 2 groups about 50 feet apart. My group (kit, amy, allen, and myself) got stuck with some rocks as kit's tube bottom started falling apart. His tube got pushed into some high rock and flipped over and mine flipped over too. I just got thrown into the deep water. I was totally got shoot away from my tube. I tried to touch the bottom of the water, but I couldn't feel anything under my feet. I just had to swim back to the surface and get a deep breath as I get nervous... hohoho. I saw the other group ahead of me so I just swam toward them.

After struggled so much just to get back on the land, I saw Kit whole body was shaking. (Remember he was thrown into water also). That's when my body fat became useful. hohoho.

I totally agree with Chinese phrase 欺山莫欺水. (Thx Kala for translation)

Riding to New Braunfels

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy /

Such a busy weekend. I went to New Braunfels with waterfish friends.

Woke up around 7:30 and it's not a very hot morning. I arrived at Andy's house at 8:10, 5 minutes ahead of our meeting time. We waited 10 minutes and that fxxk tard kevin hasn't shown up. We called him up and he's still sleeping in his xxxxxxx bed. Good times, late as usual.

Then Andy decided to go fill up the tank first. 10 minutes later, Mr. Late called us and asked where we at, and he couldn't find Andy's house. OMG, Mr. Late couldn't remember where Andy lives..................... sigh.......

We supposed to meet Manbro at Sams on I-10. So we just told manbro to take off first instead of waiting for us. On our way to New Braunfels, Mr Late started complaining he's hungry and wanted his damn sandwich from panpan, who's riding in Manbro's car.

Since some of us want to take a bio break as well, so we stopped at one of the gas station so Mr. Late can get his preorder sandwich. No excuse for being late, I should just take his sandwich and 2 bite it and finish it right in front of him.

I felt like I am one of those ingorant travelers in the airport got asked by some drug smuggler to help carrying something illegal into the country.

Anyway, I think there's like 24 "smugglers" + a handful of real person presents. Total about 31 friends and family... hmm.. exceed the birthday girl's age.. we should kick one person out....

How to: validate XML doc in memory with Schema

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

First come across this when I try to validate the xml.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms162371.aspx
But it doesn't solve my problem with in memory xml validation. So I change around the code a bit and come out with this mess, but it works.

try{
//First load the xml and the schema using xmldocument
XmlDocument myXML = new XmlDocument();
myXML.PreserveWhitespace = true;
myXML.Load(textBoxValidateXML.Text);

XmlDocument mySchema = new XmlDocument();
mySchema.PreserveWhitespace = true;
mySchema.Load(textBoxSchema.Text);

//decrypt the file
Encryption myDecrypt = new Encryption("wow");
myDecrypt.Decrypt(myXML);
myDecrypt.Decrypt(mySchema);

//add the schema to the xml
myXML.Schemas.Add("http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema", new XmlTextReader(new System.IO.StringReader(mySchema.InnerXml)));
//add validation event handler
ValidationEventHandler eventHandler = new ValidationEventHandler ValidationEventHandler);
//validate
myXML.Validate();
}
catch(Exception ex) {
//error handler
}

---------------------------------------
the ValidationEventHandler can be very simple

static void ValidationEventHandler(object sender, ValidationEventArgs e)
{
switch (e.Severity)
{
case XmlSeverityType.Error:
MessageBox.Show("ERROR: {0}", e.Message);
break;
case XmlSeverityType.Warning:
MessageBox.Show("Warning {0}", e.Message);
break;
}
}

How to load XML document from memory to Dataset

Came across this forum post while I try to find the solution. That's exactly what I try to do!!!
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1570786&SiteID=1

basically, in C#

//create the xmlDoc
XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument();
xmlDoc.PreserveWhitespace = true;
xmlDoc.Load(SOME_XML_FILE);
//insert your decryption code here

DataSet ds = new DataSet();
ds.ReadXml(new XmlTextReader(new System.IO.StringReader(xmlDoc.InnerXml)));

Pretty easy, isn't it?

Don't mess with the gnomes

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

I was leveling my lvl 34 pally in Shimmering Flats on Saturday. While I was sitting down eating food and rebuffing, a lvl 48 hunter and a lvl 28 hunter shot at me. I tried to run but they just chase me down. That pissed me off b/c they waste my potion and food buff. Also, it's a freaking long walk from the graveyard!!! After I got my corpse back, I ran to Gadgetzan and picked up the flight path and got on my gnome warrior to teach these 2 huntards a lesson. I port to Cavern of Time and ran up to Shimmering Flats and saw both of them right at where they ganked my poor pally. I charged in at one of their pet and hit hamstring. I am not sure if the charge kill it or the hamstring buff the head off. Then I ran to the hunter and just killed him before I can hit Moral Strike. I changed stance and intercept the other hunter's pet and buzzed the other hunter also.

I sticked around and saw them revive their pet. hahaha... I charged in on them and thunder clap kill their little pets. Good times good times. I hope their pet will get unhappy, I am not sure.

Rinse and repeat for 1 more time and I guessed the lvl 28 huntard got smart and not even came back to pick up his a$$ corpse. I ran around and saw the lvl 48 again. He dropped a frozen trap when I charged at his poor cat. The cat ran a few feet and died from Deep Wound. LOL. Damn I forgot to put on my pvp trinket.... oh well, it's funny to watch his cat die while I was frozen. Once I was out, I changed stance and intercept the a$$hole.

I waited for another 10minutes or so while watching Olymphics. Guess those 2 fxxk tard called it for the night.

I logged back about a few hours later and their corpses are still there... good stuff. Lesson taught. Don't mess with the gnomes.

As I looked across the site, I found something interesting...
http://consumerist.com/5036696/time-warner-cable-responds-to-world-of-warcraft-disconnections
Poor guy!!! Got screwed by TWC. You need to do the same thing as the BoA guy did. TWC probably will do the same thing as Comcast and removed the bad router from the routing table or some sort of thing to keep you happy.

The only way to get this big corporation to fix our little consumer problem is to break through the CSR. Most of the CSR know shxt about their services. You have to get to the bigger guy to get the problem resolved. Most CSR just read their scripts to you on the phone and at least half of the time their scripts won't fix the problem.

Running Karazhan with lots of noob

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

It's one of the most frustrating night in wow life. It's worse than the 28 wipes in Archie the other night!!!
First, I saw some new 70s looking for a kara run on Saturday night. I knew it wouldn't end good so I resisted to sign up for it. Then my friend kept telling me to go. I told him that's lots of noob there and it wouldn't be pretty. Well, I am just too soft ear. I ended up going as off tank with my MS warrior.
We wiped at Midnight... oh my god.. what's happening? haven't wiped at that boss for ages... these people didn't know what threat is. They pulled aggro right off the bat. STOP DPS when tank doesn't have enough aggro!!!! WTF!! Another problem is the stupid shxtty pally healer. My friend (who's MT for the night) said he received 600 flash heal when he's taking 3k damage. It ain't happening.
Shortly after Maiden, Gedruid had to go b/c his wife need him on the bed... good stuff. Shouldn't come if you only had 2 hours for a noob kara raid. I understood that FUN stuff on the bed is more important.
Anyway, after so many death and wipes we somehow managed to make it to Opera. The worst boss we could get would be Romulo and Julianne. Fxxk, we got that stupid boss. I had to offtank the bxtch. We were doing good until all the noob not listening on vent. We called out to switch dps to Romulo and 2 noobs never listen and kill Julianne when Romulo at 40%... OMG...

After the 3rd wipe at the boss I thought we are done for the night when the trash respawned. Those dummy still wanted to keep going, oh well, guess I would kept playing.... The very first trash pull... we wiped b/c people ignoring the aggro issue again. Sigh.. what can I say, the MT called it the night and I quickly left the group. My repairing bill is 55G... thx for so many wipes!!

Note to myself: don't run with 3+ noob at a time. 2 is the max u can handle.

Surefooted enchant dropped.. not for me

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

Ran Karazhan on Friday night with some other guildies. When we got to the famous enchanting pattern drop place right before Opera, we pulled the mob as usual. We all said it's just a rumor that the recipe would drop b/c we've been here millions of times and never see it dropped. Well, guess what, it dropped!! Thought I would have taken it, rite.... but wait.....

At that time I was watching Olymphic so I didn't turn my computer volume up at all. I typed in the raid chat said I would take the recipe but I don't see anyone response. and people started heading in the boss room. I quickly picked up the recipe and ran to the room.
After the boss fight someone whispered me what's happen to the recipe, and I saw Plunk saying in our own TOA channel that someone was yelling in vent. Then I started paying attention to the vent again. Ended up that fxxking noob hunter alt want the enchanting. He claimed he rolled a 67 and we should roll for the enchant. Oh well... I rolled a 61 and lost. So I had to file a petition and gave up my enchant to a noob hunter. Really.. why alt would roll against a main??

I am not really happy about it, but what can I say? Fair roll, right? Guess I have to wait for other time.... sucker!!!

Kael is DOWN!!!!

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

Man oh man. What can I say?!?! Kael is down!!

We started off with a very positive attempt right off the bat last night, a much better attempt than all the Tuesdays attempts. We actually killed all the weapon adds and got to see Kael at the very first try. We followed this strategy with minor changes.

After a night long of positive and improving progress with AoE down all the weapons before the advisors respawn. we finally killed Kael in our 9th try of the night. I haven't been any more excited than any of the previous bosses we have killed so far. Killing Kael also wrapped up our raid team T5 content. We will move on and continue our efforts on the remaining T6 content.

So I called them again yesterday and again I got put on hold for 20min and I gave up. Gave them a call this morning and finally some lady answer my call...

Anderson Group Lady --- AGL

AGL: Thank you for calling Anderson Group. How can I help you today?
JPG: I want to schedule a dental appointment.
AGL: Have you been here before?
JPG: No.
AGL: You have to call your insurance company to fax the eligibility form to us
JPG: I did that back in June.
AGL: We need them to fax us every month.... (I ignored the rest of her sentence)
JPG: Alright, I will do that. Bye.

I called my insurance and told them to fax the form. I was told to wait 10-15min to call back to the dental office so they can get my form.
I waited 20 min and ringed a call to Anderson Group again.

Supremus Down

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

OSRT (Open Source Raid Team) was in Black Temple last night. First boss's easy except we pulled him with the trash once which wiped us. 2nd attempt was very clean and we just took him down without any problem.

The second boss is Supremus. Since we only attempted this boss once before, it's a chaotic for the first few tries. People just tried to stay alive from volcano in the 2nd phase. After 5 attempts, we changed our strategy. Instead of running around in a bunch, we seperated in 4 different groups to form a circle around the middle area. The tank stay on him for the whole time and each group move together outward from the middle. The main focus is left no volcando in the middle tanking area. This Strat worked very well and we down him in the 3rd attempt.

It was a rough night. I started falling asleep after 12:30 and in the 2nd trash clear and a few nonworking strat attempt, I just fall asleep in the middle of the fight. But at the end we down the boss and I was happy with the progress.

What to do when you have too much to do

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

Kala complained today about too much work and not sure where to start. I come up a solution for her:

1st: assign all the stuffs to each fingers
2nd: count how many fingers have been assigned, go to step 3
3rd: repeat step 2 to confirm while not 5:20pm
4th:itʼs 5:20pm, time to go home, count fingers again tomorrow

To teach her some introduction of C#, here's a simple translation:

//step 1
for(int i=0; i
{
myfingers[i] = (Object)stuffs_to_work_on[i];
if(i>9) break; //count to 9 b/c it's 0 based, which means 1st object is at index 0
}
//step 2
int fingersAssigned;
foreach(finger f in myfingers)
{
if(f.IsAssigned())
fingersAssigned++; //here, ++ means add 1. which is equal to fingersAssigned = fingersAssigned + 1
}
//step 3

while(System.Time.Now() <> 5.20
{
Console.WriteLine("KALA has " + fingersAssigned + "shxt to work on"); //Kala telling people how busy she is
}

//step 4 say goodbye to boss

return 0; //going home safely

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

I respec both my mage and warrior over the weekend for pvp fun this past weekend.
I picked up Cloak of Subjugated Power over Cloak of Arcane Alacrity this weekend for my mage b/c my crit is kind of low right now. Maybe I will build a hasting set when I have enough haste gear to play with. I also spent 60 badges on Dory's Embrace for my warrior.

Fun fun warrior:
My warrior got jumped by another warrior while I was herbing in Zangarmarsh and waiting in AV queue. Big mistake if you are shxtty warrior like him. He burned his Retaliation cooldown and still hit like a girl. I simply changed to def stance then disarm him. At least he didn't try to run away. After he's dead, I sat down and eat then he attacked me again think he could take me down... lol. Without his retaliation he didn't do much damage to me. I camped him 2 more times before I went on to my herbing.
While I was selling stuffs at Cenarion Refuge , he showed up and laughed at me, so I flew back to the same spot we fight earlier. I dismounted and baited him to fight again. That sad warrior went down just like before. Poor shxtty warrior should go ltp before jumping people.

Battleground:
My mage still got my butt kicked when facing some OP warlocks with their pets chasing me all over the place or the soon to be nerded rogues with their evation up and dodges every attacks I threw at them.
Warrior is doing better.

Arena:
My warrior played on a 3s team this week and mage played on a 2s.

3s team: MS warrior, SS rouge and a Healadin. Our 3s team just got out geared by the other team and only log a 3-7 record.

2s team: frost mage + druid/combat sword rogue. start off with 1-3 with the druid and come back to 3-4 after a rough start. Then went 2-1 with the rogues. Overall, 5-5 this week is not too horrible.

Game of the week: played against a druid-druid team and it went on for 5min which's the longest I've been in a 2s game. I was oom at the end and the druid-druid team just out last us. Still, it's a pretty good learning experience.
Self note: can't sheep druids, they can shape shift out of the polymorph.

Naxxramas

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

Raid leader Pharmacy from our guild VOID want to revisit the old world content and we started with the hardest 40 man dungeon. Naxxramas was the hardest 40 man dungeon before Burning Cursade. First off I needed to attuned to the dungeon with Argent Dawn rep. Spent about 2 days to grind the rep from friendly to revered.

Me and 22 fellow guildies went there to take a peek at what it looked like. A few bosses are still pretty tough for a T5/T6 lvl 70. I wonder how the world did the old lvl 60 people can finish this dungeon. We wiped on Gluth serveral times and called it the night. Gluth is just nasty aoe kiting that 4 mages without improved blizzards simiply can't handle it.

Afterall it's still a fun experience to visit the old world content.

Worst AV ever

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

Got in one of the worst, if not the worst, Altrec Valley. Final score Horde 630, Alliance 0.
Horde sent like 15 people to recap the towers, then pushing us all the way back to the Stormpike graveyard. Worst part is alliance can't even take any tower back. And we all forced to rezz at stormpike and watched the horde took us down...

install Framework 2.0 to IIS

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

I was configuring the IIS yesterday and try to make a asp.net app on the server.
On a fresh win2k3 server, windows 2003 server has .net framework 1.1 as built-incomponent. Which means most likely u need to reinstall the ASP.net 2.0 so it will register asp.net in IIS, type:

%SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis -i

Next, you need to activiate the ASP.net 2.0 in Web Service Extension. Also make sure your default web site is having .net framework 2.0. Just right click on Default Web site, go to ASP.Net tab and select ASP.Net 2.0

put App in wwwroot as default application

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

Run into a problem yesterday that I need to put the application in the wwwroot as the default application. Everything work well until I need to generate a url that link to the files on the server. The url will show no ApplicationPath. It looks like this:
http:///Uploadload/test.txt

Original code:

aRow["DocumentFolder"] = Request.ApplicationPath.ToString() + "/" ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["UploadPath"].ToString() + "/" +
GetFolderPath() + "/" + chFil.Name;

After searching on the web, I found out I need to put Request.ServerVariable["SERVER_NAME"] so the code can put the server name in the URL.

string AppPath = "/";
if (Request.ApplicationPath.ToString().Length > 1)
AppPath = Request.ApplicationPath.TrimEnd('/') + "/";

aRow["DocumentFolder"] = Request.ServerVariables["SERVER_NAME"].ToString() + AppPath + ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["UploadPath"].ToString() + "/" +
GetFolderPath() + "/" + chFil.Name;

Comcastic?

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy /

Oh man, is this really dream become true? I haven't gotten dc'd for more than 10 days. Good stuff!! All it started with complaining to one of the upper CSR on Comcast website, and the guy actually return a call to me and asked about why I was not satisified. Comcast finally do it right this time. Thanks, Mr. Upper CSR!!!

ps: Sorry I don't rememeber your name. =)

Dual Boot with my R61 with Vista preloaded

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

My R61 comes with a Vista Home Edition. Guess I should write a step by step guide for myself for future reference.

First, I upgrade to Vista Ultimate edition. I probably will do a fresh install of it just to get all the useless Lenovo software out of my system. Currently, I just unistall them manually.

Follow this step is necessary if you don't have extra partition, otherwise you can skip to the next section.

Section 1: partition your hard drive

DISKPART, a disk partition that comes with your vista.

Run DISKPART on command prompt, type
list disk
The primary disk for my hard drive is Disk 0, so type in:
select disk 0

Now we want a list of volumes on this disk, type in:
list volume

select the volume you want to partition, my case is volume 1,
select volume 1

Now type in:
shrink

now DiskPart will shrink your disk and squeeze out some free space for u.

After the operation is completed, type
EXIT

Next, go to Disk Management and format the new partition.
(Right click on your computer, Manage, under Storage-->disk Management)

Section 2: change your BIOS setting

First goto the BIOS by pressing the ThinkVantage button, or simplily just press F1 at boot up, to get into BIOS Setup Utility. Choose Config then Serial ATA (SATA). Choose Compatibility instead of AHCI (AHCI is the defualt setting). This will let you install xp. In AHCI mode, if you put in the xp disc, if will load the xp installer but it will complain about disk not found error. (Hard learn lesson and after extend research to find out).

Section 3: Install your xp

This step is straight forward and just follow the on screen instructions. The only thing you want to pay attention is which partition you want to install your XP. Somehow windows xp will see your new partition as C drive as well. Just be careful not to wipe out ur vista drive.

Section 4: Go find your driver

It's pain in the a$$. Tons of shxt to download from Lenovo site.
My R61 model is 7742 CTO. Here is the link for my laptop drivers.

After you download the drivers, it will unzipped to C:\Drivers
here is the list of folders under my C:\Drivers:

  • OSFIXES (install this before the HDAMODEM and ModemOM)

  • HDAMODEM -- Soft Data Fax Modem

  • ModemOM -- FaxModem adapter

  • TPBTooth -- Bluetooth

  • W2K-->EZEJECT

  • WIN

Under WIN, there's where most of the important stuffs are located.

  • Audio

  • DISPLAY -- nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M / Quadro FX 570M

  • ETHERNET -- Intel PRO/1000 LAN adapter

  • HOTKEY -- Hotkey utility

  • HPPROTECT -- ThinkVantage Active Protection System
    Airbag-like protection for your hard drive: activation software

  • IBMPM -- Power Manager

  • IMSM --Intel Matrix Storage Manager

  • INTELLINF -- Intel Chipset

  • KEYCUSTM -- Keyboard Customizer

  • MONITOR -- LCD driver

  • SCREADER -- SmartCard reader

  • TPM -- Trusted Platform Module (Atmel TPM) This one is the one I couldn't figure out that I have it.

  • Turbodis -- winxp doesn't support Turbo Memory, so disable it to elimiate the ! sign

  • UNVA -- Mouse/TrackPoint

  • UNVAUTIL UltraNav Utility

  • WLLANATH2 -- ThinkPad 802.11a/b/g/n, 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter

Obviously you wnat to download the LAN and wireless LAN from somewhere else. Either run the setup or go to Device Manager to install the driver. Hope you can figure out how to do it.

Setp 5: Restoring Vista and enable Dual Boot

Now, you want to pop the vista disc back in the dvd rom and reboot.
Choose Install Now, then select Repair your computer.
Pick the drive where the vista is installed, then select Startup Repair. It should fix it for you.

After you get back into Vista, you can go ahead and download EasyBCD or anyway u can add an entry to the bootloader.

For EasyBCD, go to Add/Remove Entries, under "Add an Entry", select Windows NT/2k/XP2k3 for the veriosn, change the drive to E:\ and Name your partition. Then Add Entry and Save.

Reboot and you should see 2 entries in the Vista bootloader.

Section 6: Renable Intel Turbo Memory

Now if you go into the Device Manager in Vista, you will see the Intel Turbo Memory is disabled. What you need to do is go back to BIOS and change the setting back to AHCI in Section 2.

Woot!!! DONE!!

More shxtty comcast CSR

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy /

I called Comcast 3 times over the weekend. First time after the CSR answer the phone, she went disappeared. After 10 minutes of waiting, I decided to hang up.

2nd time I called, it was like 1:30am on saturday night. I was talking with another CSR. After I explained my situtation to her she got annoyed and she screamed at me. I immediately asked for her name and her attitude became more "friendly". We went through the same stupid "Follow the script" help from her.

I should filed a complain on her attitude. I was not too pissed at that point, just want a revenge on getting screamed at by the fxxking CSR.

WTB Decurse on Curse of Comcast

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy /

Comcast connection sucks balls like KB and Dave loves to take bounce pass. I was in Kara last night. The connection dropped every 30 min or so. I disconnected at least 6 times during the 4 hours I was in Kara. Luckily I didn't cause any wipe on the group.

So I finally called Comcast up and tried to get them to fix it. End result: they couldn't do anything. The CSR told me to call back when the shxtty connection dropped so they can have a read on the signal.

Comcast = fail

Hall of Shame on msn

Comcast still POS

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy /

Finally POS comcast decided to come to fix my cable internet.

The guy tested my modem and the cable line, then he went to the backyard to take out the filter. He told me I had a bad trap (filter) so he took it out.

At first I thought everything will be back to the good old days... well, not so soon. At nite when I started playing WoW as usual, the internet start acting up again. It dropped connection like a hot potato. Maybe the modem can't handle both Vent and WoW at the same time? Who knows. But it just has to happen at night during my WoW time that piss me off.

Let me call them up again and complain...

.Net Obfuscator

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

Dotfuscator Community Edition 3.0 is free and offers the basic obfuscation. It basically rename identifiers (e.g. functions/variables) to provide the basic code protection to make the source code difficult to read.

Here is the overview of Preemptive's Dotfuscator

Another interesting stuffs about all these reverse engineering prevention is Microsft Sofware Licensing and Protection Services (SLP Services). Please read, I tried to explain it in my own word, but the website simpily explain more clearly and thoroughly.

Mage pvp

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy / Labels:

copy from elite jerks

For melee classes remember one general rule - BEST DEFENCE IS NOT BEENG THERE.

Class list :

Shamans enhancement - kite them like a warrior , if they are 20+ yards away from you they cant hit you. Dont use ice barrier unless they come close and you can time their hits with the barrier. Destroy any grounding totems , i usualy just shoot the shaman , if there is grounding it changes direc

Warrior - ice lance when running AWAY from them so they dont get the charge , then everytime he intercepts you blink.
A simple rule - if you start casting something and he gets shield on + spell reflect - stop + hit ice lance and root again with rank 1 frost bolt if that nova you just broke was the only thing that was stopping him from smashing your head with the stables flag :P

Warlocks - send your rogue in serious - one on one against sl/sl you hardly have a chance , esp if the felly is on you.
I admit i beat them if they have no healer behind them but i guess its because most of them expected easy fight
and didnt try/have everything prepared for a good fight.
Just the usual lance+nova spam + counterspell banish/fear/drain life , this priority. Dont try touching the pet unless you are tryng to run and rank 1 cold of cold slow on it.

Rogues - trink their kidney shot not their cheap shot. Blink off only kidney shot too.
Then root with elemental nova. Remember - cripling slows alot ,but so does the cone of cold - keep them slowed constantly with coc.
And ice barrier should be up on a cooldown.

Hunters - the usual nova + ice lance + coc + pet + nova + ice lance + arcane explossion/fireblast spam until nova is ready off cd.
The moment the pet turns red - blink behind them ,wait for 2-3 seconds for him to eat trought ice barrier and pet to catch up and THEN ice block.
After 10 seconds they are easy pray.
Spam ice lance if they are stupid enogh and try to get an easy aim shot - it interrupts their casting.

Mage raid cooldown

Author: Jon aka Poor Guy /

After reading elite Jerks, here are some cooldown I should look at (copy from elite jerks):
1. Heroism/bloodlust (+30% haste =~ +23.08% dps)
2. molten fury (+20% dmg = +20% dps) --> (yes, this is a cooldown, for all intent and purposes)
3. icy veins (+20% haste =~ +16.67% dps)
4. drums of battle (+5.1% haste =~ +4.85% dps (or less depending on base haste rating))
5. skull of gul'dan (+11.15% haste =~ +10.03% dps (or less depending on base haste rating))
6. hex shrunken head (+211 dmg =~ +?? % dps (figurative number))
7. destruction potion (+120 dmg/+2% crit =~ +?? % dps (figurative number))
8. flame cap (+80 dmg =~ +?? % dps (figurative number))
9. combustion (this spell sucks - At 40% crit rate, it gives you 10%, 20%, 30%, 32%, 22%, 9%, 1.4%, 0.1% crit (on average) for casts 1 to 8.
